Great read. 4 stars because this version of print had many spelling errors. This was Hunter S. Thompson's first published book. It wasn't the first he wrote, but it was the first that was published. I was a little disappointed in the writing style; there was none of the Thompson Gonzo journalism I hoped for (that is the reason for only four stars). I guess that came a few years later. This was a pretty straight forward look at what the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club members were really like in the mid to late 60s, when most people thought all bikers were Hells Angels. Thompson gave an honest look at the stories people were reading about the Hells Angels, but from the bikers' point of view. At a time when stories about outlaw bikers were sensationalized to sell copy, and the Hells Angels were being blamed (or credited, depending on your perspective) for things they weren't even involved in, Thompson told the truth. And as it turned out, sometimes the truth wasn't really that far from the sensational stories being reported. This book was written over 50 years ago, and the Hells Angels have changed a lot since then, but it is a very interesting look at their history.
